I primarily use emotionally focused therapy (EFT), an evidence-based treatment approach to help couples struggling in their relationship by helping to reduce distress and by creating more secure attachment bonds. After an initial consult, I meet with each partner individually to help assess historical and current relational patterns. This helps to identify negative interaction cycles that can inadvertently sabotage intimacy. Other EFT steps include de-escalation, expanding and heightening positive emotion, re-engagement and softening, and finally, consolidation.
